Maerten Fransz. van der Hulft was part of the wider circle around Jan van Goyen. He occasionally signed his pictures, ‘Hulst’, which would indicate that he was related to the painter, Frans de Hulst. Amongst his oeuvre, which due to its quality is often attributed to van Goyen and Aelbert Cuyp, are river, beach and dune landscapes.
